The poem "The White of Ships" was written in the last decade of Marie Luise Kaschnitz's life and has been beautifully translated by German American poet Lisel Mueller. In this artists' book, Michele Burgess's prints are interwoven with the poem to speak of the past and present, simultaneously. The images speak to the weight of memory and the slow and truthful discoveries experienced in solitude.
